Amazon has purchased 120 acres of land east of Dallas from Hunt Realty Investments Inc.

The e-commerce giant acquired a slice of Hunt’s extensive 2,500-acre property to construct a new distribution center in Terrell. While the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, Kaufman County records reveal the transaction between the two parties closed in late June.

A spokesperson for Amazon, Daniel Martin, told Dallas Business Journal that construction of the new inbound cross-dock facility has begun. At full buildout, the facility is expected to support over 1,000 jobs.

Planning documents show that Atlanta-based Seefried Industrial Properties Inc., a developer with a history of building Amazon industrial facilities, has begun work on a building exceeding 900,000 square feet on the land in question.

Terrell Mayor Rick Carmona praised the massive project as “a fruitful investment for both Hunt Realty, business partners, and the City of Terrell.”

“We look forward to bringing this project into our corporate community… With our priorities of economic growth and job creation, this project will assist the City of Terrell in our goal of building a live-work-play community,” Carmona said, per DBJ.

Earlier this year, The Dallas Express reported that Amazon aims to spend roughly $100 billion on artificial intelligence opportunities in 2025 alone. A portion of this investment will likely land in the Lone Star State, with North Texas, in particular, a hotbed for data center expansion.
