Motorists traveling through Garland can expect significant traffic disruptions as Interstate 635 narrows to one lane in each direction west of Plano Road through Central Expressway, with overnight restrictions continuing through Monday morning, August 4.
The lane reductions, running from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., are part of the five-year LBJ East reconstruction project that has already created ongoing mainlane closures throughout Garland’s busiest freeway corridor.
Multiple access points along I-635 face simultaneous closures.
Plano Road remains closed at the interstate during the same overnight hours through the morning of August 4, while daytime lane restrictions affect the eastbound frontage road between Plano Road and Estate Lane from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Sunday, August 3.
The Kingsley Road and Walnut Hill Lane intersection, closed since April 11 for an estimated four months, continues to affect traffic flow. Additional lane closures on the westbound frontage road at Kingsley will occur during both daytime and overnight hours through Monday morning.
Garland Avenue access to westbound I-635 faces overnight closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Various lanes near the interstate and along frontage roads between Garland Avenue and the KCS rail crossing will close intermittently during overnight hours.
Northwest Highway will be reduced to single lanes in both directions during overnight hours through the morning of August 4. The westbound frontage road just west of Northwest Highway faces extended closure from Wednesday evening through the morning of August 4.
Long-term closures compound the traffic challenges. All lanes of Woodmeadow Parkway at La Prada Drive have been closed since July 7, with the closure extending through fall 2025.
The I-30 interchange area faces its own set of restrictions. Westbound Interstate 30 reduces to one lane just west of I-635 from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning, while Galloway Avenue closes at various times through the weekend.
Connector ramps between I-30 and I-635 face multiple closures throughout the week. The ramps from I-30 to northbound I-635 and from southbound I-635 to westbound I-30 will close during overnight hours on different days.
Weather conditions may affect all scheduled closures, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. The $1.7 billion LBJ East project aims to reconstruct and widen I-635 from U.S. Highway to Interstate 30, including the I-635/I-30 interchange.
Once complete, the project will expand general-purpose lanes to 10 total and rebuild the existing two tolled managed lanes. Construction also includes continuous frontage roads and numerous intersection improvements throughout the corridor.
