Officers with the Garland Police Department have launched an investigation following the finding of a “decomposed body” in a creek Sunday evening.

Garland police and firefighters responded to a creek on July 13, after reports of “what appeared to be a deceased individual” under a bridge, the police department posted to Facebook. Responders arrived at the scene, on the block of 2600 Anita Dr., near Ruperds Branch Creek, around 9:45 p.m.

“Emergency personnel located partial human remains, believed to be those of an adult, entangled in debris within the water,” the release said.

The remains’ “condition” and recent heavy rainfall led investigators to believe the body may have been “carried downstream from a location north of the scene,” according to the release.

Garland detectives and the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office are working together to identify the body and determine the cause of death, the release said. Officials are still investigating.

The Dallas Express reached out to Garland police for comment, but did not hear back in time for publication. Officials are asking anyone with information to contact the department at 972-485-4840.
