As the sun first shone in Denton Tuesday morning, a stranger knocked on someone’s door while wielding a knife.
A man approached a home just after 7 a.m. July 8, in a neighborhood near Audra Lane and McKinney Street. He pushed the Ring doorbell, activating surveillance footage. Then he turned around, showing a large knife. He began to speak in Spanish.
“Hello? Hello?” the resident can be heard asking.
The man continued speaking Spanish, gazing out at the street. Then the stranger asked, “Do you know which house I’m supposed to be going to, for my brother?”
“I don’t know your brother, you’re on the wrong property,” the resident replied.
The man stood there silently, nodding his head. He paused, then wandered back to the street. He paced back and forth, still holding the sheathed blade in his left hand. Eventually, he walked away.
Officers with the Denton Police Department responded to a suspicious person on Campbell Lane at 7:07 a.m., said Public Information Liaison Lacy Fenn to The Dallas Express.
“Officers canvassed the immediate and surrounding areas but were unable to locate the person,” she said. “The reporting party did not indicate to dispatch that the person had any weapons.”
If residents feel unsafe, they should call 911 or contact Denton police at 940-349-8181, according to Fenn.
“If someone exhibiting suspicious behavior comes to your door, trust your instincts — keep the door locked,” she said.
The resident warned others on Ring to “always check the door” before opening it, even if they are expecting someone.
“Please be very careful who you open your door to,” the resident wrote. “This guy, obviously armed and up to no good came to the door. Good thing we didn’t just open. Heaven knows what he may have done.”
