(Texas Scorecard) – A Houston-area neurologist’s medical license was suspended following accusations he attempted to solicit sex from a 15-year-old girl through a messaging app.
Dr. Jason Robert Thonhoff, a 43-year-old neurologist from the Stafford area and a former physician at the Houston Methodist Neurological Institute, had his medical license temporarily suspended amid a pending criminal trial.
He is facing charges of online solicitation of a minor.
The Texas Medical Board announced the suspension following a disciplinary panel decision. The suspension will remain in effect until further board action is taken.
Thonhoff, who was licensed in Texas roughly a decade ago, had been affiliated with the Houston Methodist Neurological Institute for much of his career. However, a spokeswoman confirmed he has not worked there since September 2024.
His arrest stems from a large-scale sting operation conducted in 2023 by the Houston Metro Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.
According to court records, Thonhoff allegedly engaged in sexually explicit conversations through the messaging app Kik with someone he believed to be a 15-year-old girl. In reality, he was communicating with an undercover deputy working with the ICAC Task Force. The investigation revealed that at one point, Thonhoff allegedly requested an explicit photo.
The online conversations reportedly began in 2023 and continued into April 2025.
In a public statement following the arrest, Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen wrote: “Let this be a warning to predators: we patrol cyberspace and we will catch you. We will do all we can to protect the most vulnerable members of our society.”
The Kik app, which was central to this case, has been linked to numerous incidents involving child exploitation.
Just two months ago, a 42-year-old Houston mother was arrested after allegedly recording her 11-year-old daughter exiting the shower and sharing the footage via Kik. She was charged with felony sexual performance of a child.
