The Fort Worth Police Department is investigating a murder after a fight this weekend turned deadly.

Fort Worth police responded to a shooting call near the Stockyards early Sunday morning, according to a press release. They found a man at the scene, shot. He was taken to a local hospital, but ultimately died.

Officers with the department’s North West Division responded to the area near 3100 N. Main St. at 2:39 a.m. on July 6.

“Upon arrival, officers located the victim on the ground of a parking lot with an apparent gunshot wound to his torso,” the release reads. He was brought to a hospital, but “did not survive his injuries” and died.

Detectives found the victim had been approached by “the suspect,” and “additional subjects” were involved in a “physical altercation,” according to the release. Witnesses broke up the fight, then the “suspects” went to a vehicle in the parking lot. They got weapons and shot the victim “at least one time” in the torso. The suspects fled in a “dark colored vehicle.”

The Fort Worth Police Homicide Unit was still investigating the murder at the time of the release.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner will “determine” the manner and cause of death, and “the identity of the deceased,” according to the release.

The Dallas Express asked Fort Worth police for comment, but an officer stated that he could not share any additional information beyond the press release.

The Dallas Police Department responded to a separate homicide on Saturday, July 5, according to a press release. Officers similarly responded to a shooting and found a man had been shot. He was taken to the hospital and ultimately died.

Early that morning, a Dallas police officer shot and killed an armed suspect after a shooting wounded multiple people under a bridge downtown, as The Dallas Express previously reported. The city has seen 13 murders in June alone.
