Costco members who purchased certain U-shaped window air conditioners are being told to stop using them immediately due to a mold hazard that could pose serious health risks, including respiratory infections and allergic reactions.

The recall affects Danby brand AC units, model DAC080B6IWDB-6, sold at Costco between June 10, 2021, and February 2, 2022, according to supplier Midea America Corp. The company says a design flaw allows water to pool inside the units rather than drain properly, creating conditions for mold to grow inside the appliance.

The warning comes amid a broader recall of Midea’s U-shaped air conditioners across multiple retail outlets. Health risks associated with mold exposure include coughing, wheezing, skin or eye irritation, and more serious complications for individuals with compromised immune systems.
