According to jail records, the 28-year-old was booked into the Collin County jail and later released on $500 bond. He faces charges of possessing marijuana and unlawfully carrying a firearm.

The arrest comes just four months after Turpin signed a three-year, $18 million contract extension with the Cowboys. The deal reportedly made him the highest-paid special teams player in league history.

Turpin earned All-Pro honors last season after returning both a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns. He also became more active on offense, finishing 2023 with 420 receiving yards and two touchdowns, in addition to scoring three touchdowns the previous season.

Originally undrafted, Turpin’s path to the NFL included a stint in Poland and a breakout performance in the USFL, where he was named league MVP while playing for the New Jersey Generals. That performance caught the attention of Dallas, and he joined the Cowboys in 2022.

His NFL career followed a troubled college tenure. Turpin was dismissed from the TCU football team in 2018 after being arrested for assaulting a family member. He later pleaded guilty, receiving probation and court-ordered counseling.

The Cowboys have not yet commented on Turpin’s arrest.
