The Fort Worth Police Department collected more than 50 boxes of food over the weekend as part of a community effort to help local families in need.
Command staff and neighborhood police officers organized the food drive with support from the Walmart on McCart Avenue, according to a department statement posted on social media.
The department said it aims to keep Fort Worth one of America’s “best and most giving cities.”

Officer Buddy Calzada told The Dallas Express that the food drive took place at the Walmart located at 7451 McCart Ave. in the department’s South Division.
“We are assisting in stocking up local food pantries in the area,” Calzada said. “It is important to continue to partner with numerous local organizations in a way to assist families that are in need.”
Fort Worth police have a history of rallying around community members. As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the department and local residents came together last year to support a Fort Worth officer diagnosed with cancer and undergoing triple bypass surgery.
