Michael Madsen, the gravel-voiced actor known for iconic roles in Quentin Tarantino films, has died at age 67.
Madsen was found unresponsive at his Malibu home Wednesday morning and later pronounced dead of cardiac arrest, according to representatives.
Over his four-decade career, Madsen became a cult favorite for his roles in Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill: Vol. 2, The Hateful Eight, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. His gritty, often volatile characters helped define the tone of Tarantino’s early work.
In a joint statement, his managers and publicist said Madsen had been deeply engaged in several upcoming independent films, including Resurrection Road, Concessions, and Cookbook for Southern Housewives. He was also preparing to publish a book of poetry titled Tears For My Father: Outlaw Thoughts and Poems.
“Michael Madsen was one of Hollywood’s most iconic actors, who will be missed by many,” the statement read.
He is survived by his wife, DeAnna Madsen, and their children.
