An alleged drug trafficker from Mexico was extradited from his home country to El Paso last week.
Hector Adrian Rojero Ramos, 54, allegedly imported heroin and fentanyl from Mexico to states including Texas, according to a release from the Department of Justice. Officials arrested Ramos on June 25 in Mexico and extradited him to the United States for a court appearance on June 27.
“The Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs worked with law enforcement partners in Mexico to secure the arrest and extradition of Rojero Ramos,” the release reads.
Ramos, also known as “Teto,” allegedly “engaged in a conspiracy” from January 2016 to August 2019 to import drugs from Mexico to America – including Illinois, Oklahoma, and Texas, according to the release. According to the Mexican newspaper Milenio, he was arrested in Ciudad Juarez.
He is being charged in the Western District of Texas with one count of conspiracy to import a controlled substance, another count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance, and two more counts of aiding and abetting possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
Ramos faces life in prison if convicted, per the release. The DEA and FBI are investigating this case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jose Luis Acosta is prosecuting.
A federal judge denied Ramos bond on July 2, according to the El Paso Times, calling him a “flight risk and a danger to the community.”
