The Dallas Police Department busted an Arizona gang member selling drugs downtown last week.

Dallas police with the Downtown Task Force arrested 33-year-old Dencel Idris after watching a drug sale on June 27, according to a press release.

When officers arrested Idris, he had 26 grams of cocaine — enough to potentially fatally overdose more than 20 people, depending on purity and dosage.

“Proactively disrupting criminal networks and seizing dangerous drugs before they reach our streets is our priority,” said Assistant Chief Mark Villarreal in the release. “Every day, our officers are protecting lives with their dedication and vigilance.”

Officers on foot patrol saw Idris selling drugs near 400 N. Lamar St. around 9 p.m. on June 27. “He ran from officers before ultimately being tased and taken into custody,” the release reads.

Idris is currently in the Dallas County Jail. He was booked on June 28, and his total bond amount is $80,000.

Idris, described in the release as a “documented gang member,” was arrested on charges of evading arrest or detention, manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, and was also wanted on multiple felony warrants out of Arizona.

He is being held on behalf of the La Paz County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona — near the California state line — on charges including unlawful obstruction, drug possession, and weapon possession, according to jail records.

Officer Jonathan Maner told The Dallas Express that Idris’ gang affiliation “remains to be determined through the investigation.”
