Police say a man is being charged with burglary following a break-in that occurred at Dallas’ Perot Museum of Nature and Science earlier this week.

Dallas law enforcement was called to the museum around 4:15 a.m. on Tuesday after someone reported a man had entered the building without permission. After arriving on the premises, Dallas police took a 34-year-old man into custody.

Police did not confirm whether the individual had taken or damaged any items.

The break-in is at least the second to occur at the facility in Victory Park, which has roots dating back to 1936. In 2022, a man told police he broke into the museum and destroyed over $5 million in artwork because he was “mad at this girl,” per NBC.

Earlier this year, The Dallas Express reported that the institution recently completed extensive renovations. The Moody Family Children’s Museum at the Dallas facility was expanded from just over 6,500 square feet to its now much larger 11,000-square-foot space. The children’s museum includes the multi-sensory and interactive Immersive Imaginarium, a large outdoor area, and an expanded toddler area, among other additions.

More recently, the museum opened The Bug Lab, an interactive, all-ages exhibition that allows visitors to experience what it’s like to be the size of a bug.

“With a blend of science, wonder, and interactive learning that aligns with the Perot Museum’s mission to inspire minds through nature and science, ‘Bug Lab’ will change how people perceive these tiny creatures by showcasing their remarkable adaptations and what humans can learn from them,” said Linda Silver, chief executive officer of the Perot Museum, per CBS News.
