Dallas Animal Services (DAS) is launching “Mission Pawsible” this month to help save animals.

The agency aims to place 1,200 animals in “loving homes” by the end of July, according to a press release. Mission Pawsible took inspiration from a “summer blockbuster thriller,” changing “every adopter into a lifesaving operative.”

“We’re calling on every neighborhood, family, and pet lover to step up, save a life, and be the Mission Pawsible hero these pets are waiting for,” said DAS Director Paul Ramon.

Friends of Dallas Animal Services – the shelter’s nonprofit fundraising partner – is helping provide limited-edition Mission Pawsible T-shirts to the first 1,200 adopters, “ready-for-deployment” adoptable pet profiles, a live mission dashboard, and themed weekends with giveaways, photo ops, and adoption spotlights.

Those who refer a friend to adopt — and are named by that friend — will both be entered to win one of five pet-themed gift baskets valued at $100 each. “No purchase necessary – just a shared mission to save lives.”

Adoptions in July are free and include microchipping, spaying or neutering surgery, and vaccinations.

Interested residents can visit the shelter’s website or stop by in person at 1818 N. Westmoreland Road, open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.

Mission Pawsible aims to boost community engagement and pet adoptions during the shelter’s busiest time of year. Kennel occupancy is currently 149% for dogs and 136% for cats.

“At a time when shelters across Texas are overcrowded, this campaign is exactly the kind of creative, community-driven action that makes a real difference,” said Sophia Proler, South Central Director for Best Friends Animal Society. “We’re proud to support their work and every adopter who answers this call to help pets in need.”

DAS hopes to maintain a 90 percent “save rate,” according to the release. The shelter had a 75.7 percent “live release rate” in May. Officers also recently rescued a dog and a kitten from local highways, as The Dallas Express reported.

Dallas Animal Services led Texas in pet adoptions in 2024, as The Dallas Express also reported. That same year, the agency topped all other shelters in the U.S. with the highest year-over-year adoption increase.

The Dallas Express reached out to Dallas Animal Services, but did not hear back in time for publication.

“We are on track for another banner year of adoptions,” Ramon said. “We know Dallas doesn’t back down from a challenge.”
