As Tarrant County undergoes a high-stakes redistricting process, County Judge Tim O’Hare is doubling down on his support for expanding Republican control of the Commissioners Court — citing taxpayer savings, public safety, and the need to protect conservative values.

“This is about getting another Republican in the Commissioners Court,” O’Hare said in an interview with NBC 5. “This is about partisan politics. I think Republicans govern better than Democrats. I am a Republican—I make no bones about it, make no apologies for it—I think we do a better job.”

O’Hare pointed to major property tax cuts as evidence of conservative leadership’s effectiveness. “We cut our property tax rates both for the hospital district and the county property tax rate well below no new revenue two years in a row,” he told NBC 5.

He contrasted Tarrant County with Democrat-run urban centers across Texas. “Democrat-run cities have decimated public safety,” O’Hare said. “Here in Tarrant County, it’s conservative leadership that has made law and order a priority.”

The NBC 5 reporter repeatedly pressed O’Hare on race, asking whether Black voters were targeted in the new maps. O’Hare forcefully rejected the question and called out the media’s role in driving division.

“Y’all always talk about race, and race, race, race—and you do things that divide people,” O’Hare fired back. “I didn’t look at race. We didn’t look at race. I look at the style of governing.”

The reporter also falsely claimed that a majority of Tarrant County mayors opposed the redistricting plan.

“I would 100% disagree with what you just said,” O’Hare responded. “So when you say most of the mayors, there are 41 cities in Tarrant County—so most is more than 21. There was a letter from 10 mayors… two of them came back and took their name off.”

O’Hare told The Dallas Express that redistricting is essential to securing Tarrant County’s conservative future.

“A 4–1 conservative majority on the Tarrant County Commissioners Court means good governance grounded in the values that matter most—faith, family, and freedom,” O’Hare said. “It ensures a strong commitment to law and order, low property taxes, and an end to wasteful spending. With conservative leadership, residents can count on principled decision-making that puts the residents of Tarrant County and their pocketbooks first.”

O’Hare also noted that Democratic strongholds such as Harris, Travis, and Bexar counties were redistricted to strengthen Democratic control, yet they face no similar scrutiny.
