Arlington police say a shooting in an apartment complex on Thursday that left one man dead and another injured may be related to drug activity.
Arlington Police responded to a shooting call on June 19 at approximately 12:58 p.m. in the 1600 block of Nandina Drive. Officers found a 24-year-old man unresponsive inside an apartment with an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to an Arlington Police Department news release. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the victim’s name.
Witnesses reported seeing another man leave the apartment where the shooting occurred and enter a nearby apartment. Police located the individual, identified as 25-year-old Kamari Marzittie, who had been shot in the leg. Marzittie was taken to a hospital for treatment and has since been cleared by medical staff.
Marzittie initially provided officers with a false name, leading to his arrest on one count of failure to identify. He also had several outstanding warrants from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and the Grand Prairie Police Department.
After interviewing Marzittie and reviewing additional evidence, detectives charged him with one count of capital murder. Police believe the victim and Marzittie were engaged in “high-risk drug activity” and that Marzittie was attempting to rob the victim when the shooting occurred.
The investigation remains ongoing.
