Texas Senator Bryan Hughes of Mineola has once again been recognized as the most conservative member of the Texas Senate — earning the top spot for the third consecutive session, according to a political ranking system published by The Texas Tribune.
“For the third session in a row, I’ve been ranked the #1 Most Conservative Senator. I’m deeply grateful for our team who works so hard to make sure our constituents’ voices are heard loudly in Austin,” Hughes posted on Facebook.
Hughes secured the top spot in the Texas Senate, followed by Mayes Middleton of Galveston in second place.
A graduate of Tyler Junior College and the University of Texas at Tyler, Hughes has become a defining force in Texas conservative politics, best known for passing landmark legislation including the Heartbeat Bill, the ban on critical race theory in public schools, the Social Media Censorship Ban, and a major election integrity reform — according to his website.
His consistent leadership on hot-button issues and successful track record of getting high-impact conservative bills passed have made him a rising star in national conservative circles. Governing Magazine labeled Hughes as “one of the most effective legislators in the country.”
Hughes has been serving in the Texas Senate since 2017. Before becoming a senator, he was a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 2003 to 2017.
He currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on State Affairs and the Senate Committee on Jurisprudence, as well as Joint-Chair of the Joint Committee on the Effects of Media on Minors. He also holds seats on the Health & Human Services, Natural Resources, and Nominations committees. Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick recently appointed him to the Executive Committee of the Energy Council.
For many Texans, Hughes has emerged not just as a senator — but as a conservative standard-bearer.
