OBITUARY
Bobby Lee Coleman
FEBRUARY 24, 1935 – JULY 1, 2021
Bobby Coleman, of Dallas, Texas, went to be with his Heavenly Father, Bride of 61 years and his 2 Boys on July 1, 2021. He was born on February 24th, 1935, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, to Vera Trammell Coleman and Earl Lynn Coleman. Bobby grew up in Yazoo City, Mississippi, and graduated from Texas Western University with a degree in Geology, as well as was a 4-year letterman for the Texas Western Football team.
Bobby married the love of his life, Barbara Burks Coleman from El Paso, Texas, in March of 1958. Bobby began and ended his professional career in the oil field. He worked for several major oil companies in New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Texas. He eventually left Texas Oil and Gas Company and started a 48-year career with Pitts Oil Company in Dallas, Texas. Bobby worked directly with Frank Pitts, a legendary Texas oil and gas wildcatter, as Exploration Manager for East Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. He loved the oil and gas business and the excitement of wildcatting. After becoming a dad, he focused his life to raise 3 children, Kevin, Scott and Kellye. His children were the center of his world. Bobby loved the outdoors and spent countless days in the woods hunting and on the lakes and oceans fishing. All three of his children were often with him on his adventures and he was actively involved in every aspect of their lives.
When he became a grandfather, Papa as he was known, became the center of their world. Loving, generous, loyal and compassionate would be the imprint he would leave on his grandkids. His loving smile and happy, compassionate demeanor left all the grandkids with a smile on their face and true love for him in their hearts.
Bobby is preceded in death by his mother, Vera Trammell Coleman; his father, Earl Lynn Coleman; sister Dotsy Coleman Roberts; wife Barbara Burks Coleman; and his two sons Kevin and Scott Coleman. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kellye and Tommy Echols and their daughters Lauren, Alex and Presley, as well as his sister Eva Coleman Hines. He is also survived by Kevin’s children Amber, Blue and his wife Kymberly, Bobbie, Chloe and James Coleman; as well as Scott’s child Brianne Coleman Sedberry and her husband Ethan.
A celebration of Bobby’s life will be Tuesday, July 13th, at 3:30pm at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas.
