Amid ongoing Pride Month parades, Dallas and Arlington hosted LGBTQ+ pride festivals over the weekend, with events that included children in attendance.

In Dallas, the annual Pride celebration at Fair Park featured designated “Teen Pride” zones, drag performances, and vendor booths promoting various LGBTQ+ organizations. According to the event’s official website, Teen Pride was designed to “foster a supportive environment for LGBTQ+ youth ages 13 to 19, their family and friends,” offering live entertainment, vendors, and “other age-appropriate activities.”

However, concerns have been raised by the Texas Family Project, a conservative family advocacy organization, which visited the Dallas event and documented elements they say were inappropriate for minors.

In a post shared to X, the group reported observing drag performers in lingerie-style outfits “nearly exposing” themselves, booths promoting sexual health clinics aiming to “end the HIV epidemic,” and vendors selling merchandise with explicit or provocative slogans. Among the items cited were socks reading “eat a bag of dicks,” a booth sign inviting attendees to “chat with our gay pastor,” and representatives from MISTR, a gay-owned service that offers HIV prevention and treatment resources.

The Texas Family Project also reported a section selling paintings of nude men with exposed genitals, and stickers accessible to children featuring slogans such as “GAY & STONED,” “God Loves Fags,” and “DADDY,” alongside an image of Luigi Mangione.

“Dallas Pride had absolutely no regard for children,” said Kaden Lopez, executive director of the Texas Family Project. “These events continue to get more and more sexual, yet nobody seems to bat an eye. The legislature once again failed to implement any resolve for this issue despite having ‘Stop Sexualizing Texas’ Kids’ as one of the GOP’s top priorities. Texans are tired of standing by while children are openly being sexualized. Texas Family Project will continue to be on the front lines of this fight,” Lopez told the Dallas Express.

Arlington’s pride festival, which also welcomed minors, drew similar criticism. According to Texas Family Project Vice President Sara Gonzales, who posted video footage to X, drag performers were seen “shaking their ass,” touching themselves, and wearing t-shirts with phrases like “WHATABOTTOM” and “GAY BOYS.”

Despite the troubling reports from the Arlington Pride event, Arlington Mayor Jim Ross praised the controversial event.

“Arlington‘s rich diversity was celebrated tonight in grand fashion at the Levitt Pavilion with the Pride event. Congratulations to the Help Center for the tremendous success and for hosting the largest event of the year at the Levitt. Arlington continues to be a city that treats everyone with dignity and respect,” Ross said in his statement.

Not everyone was happy with Ross’ statement.

“Arlington wants to be a mini Dallas,” William Cole commented on Ross’s Facebook post.

The Dallas Express reached out to Dallas Pride and Arlington Pride organizers for comment but did not receive a response by press time.
