Tokyo-based fast-casual restaurant chain Pepper Lunch is finally making its way to North Texas.

The popular do-it-yourself hibachi-style Japanese restaurant is expanding its U.S. presence with five locations planned for North Texas. While exact dates have not been announced, the first restaurant is expected in the fourth quarter of this year, with locations planned in Frisco, Carrollton, Prosper, McKinney, and Plano.

The fast-casual chain boasts more than 540 locations in 17 countries globally. Pepper Lunch currently has just seven locations in the United States, all in California. The North Texas expansion will bring the U.S. total to 12.

Dallas-Fort Worth-based franchise group PhilX Hospitality is helping bring the concept to North Texas. PhilX already runs three JINYA Ramen Bars in DFW.

“I love Pepper Lunch but had only had it in Japan. Tried this location today and it was exactly the same as in Japan!” read one May 2025 Google review of the chain’s Milpitas, CA location.

“I’m always skeptical trying an international chain outside of their home country but it was nearly identical and equally delicious. In fact, part of me likes it better than the original because you can customize your bowls more and they have an even larger menu.”

The chain’s menu is categorized into seven sections: pepper rice, teriyaki, steak, seafood, curry, pasta, and veggie. Expect dishes like Beef Pepper Rice, Chicken Teriyaki, Angus Ribeye Steak, and Creamy Shrimp Pasta.

The chain’s website says it welcomes “patrons to be the masters of their own meals.”

“With the sizzle guiding the way, we warmly invite you to partake in this delightful blend of tradition, innovation, and impeccable taste, only at Pepper Lunch.”
