A Tarrant County couple and their 16-year-old daughter narrowly escaped injury Monday when their truck was struck by bullets in an unprovoked attack while driving on Rosedale Street.

The couple, who requested anonymity due to safety concerns, shared their harrowing experience with a local news outlet.

The family was returning home from the grocery store shortly after 5 p.m. on May 12, opting for Rosedale Street to avoid traffic delays on I-20 near I-820 E caused by a fatal accident. The wife, who was driving, said the road was congested, and a disabled vehicle forced traffic to merge into a single lane.

“Everybody was getting in real smooth,” she told NBC 5 DFW. “Then we cleared the accident, and then boom, boom, boom, boom, and, you know, I thought it was something wrong with the car, and no, it was somebody shooting at us.”

She pulled over, noticing a cranberry red sedan — where the shots originated — stop on the opposite side of the road ahead of them before making a U-turn across the median and fleeing.

“I don’t have to think about that anymore. I’m not going to. But yeah, for those seconds it was like, how to get out of this? And there’s no way out,” she recalled, per NBC 5.

The couple later discovered three bullet holes in their truck. One bullet pierced the driver’s side door, exited the opposite side, passed through the base of the driver’s seat—missing the wife by inches—and struck a bag of tortilla chips at their daughter’s feet in the backseat.

“To me, that’s God. He’s always looking out for me,” the wife said.

Another bullet hit above the back tire, and a third remains lodged in the gas tank.

“She’s everything to me,” the husband told NBC 5, reflecting on the close call. “The ability that something goes so fast, and we weren’t doing anything,” he added, visibly shaken.

The couple fears the incident may not be isolated.

“I don’t believe it’s a one-time thing,” the wife said, urging others to stay vigilant.

Fort Worth police confirmed they are investigating the shooting, but no arrests have been made as of Friday, May 16.
