A custom “Fire Nico” jersey, a blunt reference to Mavericks GM Nico Harrison, has hit the auction block, signed by none other than Luka Dončić himself, the franchise cornerstone who was controversially traded to the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this year.

The #77 jersey, currently listed by Goldin Auctions, mocks the widely criticized trade that sent Dončić to the Lakers in exchange for veteran big man Anthony Davis and a first-round pick on February 1.

The piece, accompanied by a letter of authenticity from James Spence Authentication (JSA), has already drawn viral attention. As of Friday, the bidding currently stands at $500, yet the jersey still has a few weeks left in the auction.

The Dončić-Davis swap sent shockwaves across the NBA and enraged huge parts of the Mavericks’ fanbase, many of whom viewed the trade as a lopsided failure, especially considering the Mavericks went to the Finals with Dončić the previous year.

The decision quickly sparked an outcry to fire Harrison, the man behind the blockbuster deal, who has since become infamous around the NBA.

When Dončić made his return to the American Airlines Center on April 9 to play against the Mavericks, the home fans erupted into chants of “Fire Nico.” The Lakers star could be seen tearing up on the bench watching a thank you video that the Mavs played pre-game.

Dončić’s move to L.A. has only intensified the spotlight on the star. The 26-year-old MVP candidate has flourished in his new yellow and purple get-up, and demand for his jersey sales has soared. Following the trade, eBay reported an eye-popping 1,150% spike in Dončić-related searches. The NBA also confirmed Dončić led all jersey sales for the 2024-25 regular season, despite the mid-season trade.

In March, the jersey Dončić wore during his “revenge game” against the Mavericks, in which he torched his former team, sold for a staggering $60,600.

Now, the “Fire Nico” jersey stands as a symbol of the city’s frustration and a collector’s item that captures one of the most contentious eras in Mavericks history.
