Here we are at the end of the year. As we look back at everything that 2021 offered, we must look ahead to what’s in store for 2022.

Pinterest has graciously done the work of analyzing the interests of its 400 million subscribers and what foods will be trending in 2022.

Searches for gravity-defying cake ideas were up by 70%, and searches for 3-D cakes were up 60%. Dallas cake artist Porsha Kimble says the uptick in searches may be due to people searching for sculpted cakes, which are two-dimensional cakes shaped like numbers or animals, versus a suspended cake, which is typically classified as a gravity-defying cake.

So what does Porsha think will be trending in 2022? “Abstract, bold cakes without edges, you’re going to see more flowers, buttercream is back in a big way and people will use custom toppers on their cakes such as monograms, names, and logos.” She continued, “You’ll also see smaller cakes using separated tiers, and deconstructed cakes that consist of a two-tier cake with three smaller cakes.”

Vintage tea parties will be a thing in 2022; from table decorations, dainty teapots, and fancy sandwiches, people will trade in happy hour for tea time. “We’re going back to nostalgic flavors like lemon and chocolate and basic flavors that people grew up with…macaroons are coming back in a big way, people are wanting macaroon cakes,” says Porsha.

Pinterest predicts you’ll be pulling out your grandparent’s cookbook because ancestral eats are being served at holidays, celebrations, and gatherings in 2022. Searches for traditional South African recipes increased by 150 percent and traditional Norwegian recipes were up 120 percent.

So if you’re ready to jump into 2022’s, add some of these ideas to your holiday planning. Your friends and family will undoubtedly talk about it past the new year.
