Dallas residents will have a chance to welcome the city’s newly appointed chief of police and fire chief at a swearing-in ceremony on Monday evening.
The event, scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. on May 5, will be held at the Concord church at 6808 Pastor Bailey Drive in Dallas, in the Red Bird community. Free tickets are available here.
Daniel Comeaux officially assumed his role as Dallas Police Chief on April 23 after a nationwide search, coming out on top in a field of 25 candidates, as previously reported on by The Dallas Express. He has 33 years of experience in law enforcement, most recently serving as Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Agency’s Houston Field Division, where he oversaw 12 offices across South, Central, and East Texas.
“Special Agent in Charge Comeaux has consistently demonstrated a proven track record of successfully addressing complex crime challenges across large-scale, diverse populations and geographic areas—including internationally,” Dallas City Manager Kim Tolbert said when Comeaux’s appointment was announced.
“I am proud that my career in law enforcement has come full circle and look forward to serving alongside the men and women of the Dallas Police Department,” Comeaux stated, per The Dallas Express.
Dallas Fire-Rescue Chief Justin Ball, who also stepped into his new leadership role on April 23, is a familiar face to many, as he has served with the department since 1997. He beat out more than 30 candidates in a nationwide search. Ball has been serving as the city’s interim fire chief for the past year since Dominque Artis stepped away from the role to become Dallas’ first Chief of Public Safety.
“Chief Ball has a demonstrated track record of strong leadership,” Tolbert said. “He has brought fresh ideas to solve problems and seized on innovative opportunities to take this internationally recognized department to the next level.”
“It’s an incredible honor to have been selected as the permanent Chief to lead the brave men and women with whom I have the pleasure of working with each day,” Ball said when his appointment was announced. “I look forward to building on our positive momentum, focusing on the safety and wellness of our members, and continuing to deliver the best service to this community.”
The ceremony on Monday evening will mark the beginning of a new chapter in public safety for the city of Dallas.
