Dallas police responded to reports of an active shooter at Wilmer-Hutchins High School on Tuesday shortly after 1 p.m.

Dallas Fire-Rescue reported that one person, a male teenager, had been shot in the leg while inside the school. A total of three persons were transported to the hospital after the incident, but it is unclear what type of injuries or medical conditions may have prompted the transport of the two additional persons.

The teen who was shot was reportedly in stable condition.

Students were temporarily evacuated to the bleachers at the school football field while police secured the school. The active threat was over by 1:45 p.m., and by 2:15 p.m., the campus had been secured, Dallas Independent School District officials reported.

On the school website homepage, DISD officials confirmed that a shooting incident had taken place but gave few details.

“Police are responding to a shooting incident at Wilmer-Hutchins High School. Safety protocols have been implemented, and we are asking everyone to refrain from coming to the campus. Reunification plans will be shared shortly.”

At 2:28 p.m., parents were notified that they could begin picking up their students.

“Parents/guardians can now reunify with their students at Eagles Stadium, 5520 Langdon Rd, Dallas, TX 75241. Please bring a photo ID. We understand this is a difficult time and ask for your patience. Counselors are on site and available for anyone who may need support,” the notice said.

This incident comes one year after a previous shooting at the same campus in which one student shot another, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries. The shooter was able to bring a gun into the school despite the use of metal detectors, and a later investigation revealed that bag-check policies had not been followed.
