(Texas Scorecard) – Texas Children’s Hospital whistleblower Dr. Eithan Haim testified before a congressional subcommittee that he knew from the beginning of the Biden administration’s investigation that it was a “charade.”
As a surgical resident, Dr. Haim witnessed the troubling practices of the hospital’s “transgender” procedures for minors. “The reason I spoke out is because I understand and I’ve seen the effects of what these blockers do, what these hormones do, and what these surgeries do,” he told the subcommittee. “They are destroying the lives of these children.”
In May 2023, Haim revealed that Texas Children’s Hospital had continued to administer cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers to minors, despite the hospital’s previous announcement in March 2022 that such treatments had been paused.
Haim was then indicted by the Biden administration’s Department of Justice for alleged violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Haim told the U.S. House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government that he quickly realized it was a “political witch hunt” when the U.S. attorney in charge of his case admitted she didn’t review the evidence before sending agents to his home.
According to Haim, U.S. Attorney Tina Ansari also threatened his wife’s career and told his lawyers she would take him to trial even if it meant losing. Ansari was later removed from the case due to conflicts of interest stemming from personal connections to Texas Children’s Hospital.
“They went after me so hard in order to send a message to everyone else,” he explained. “We actually had to meet in dark corners. We knew that we couldn’t say anything publicly.”
His legal team, led by Mark Lytle, argued that Haim never violated HIPAA regulations. All patient information was fully redacted, and he was accessing de-identified hospital data—a practice common in medical research.
Ultimately, the charges were dismissed with prejudice when President Donald Trump took office.
Haim was later backed up by Texas Children’s Hospital pediatric nurse Vanessa Sivadge, who alleged that the hospital was also billing the gender mutilation procedures to Medicaid in violation of state law.
“I observed the harmful effects of sex change hormones and puberty blockers for children who were convinced this would be ‘life-saving’ treatment,” Sivadge testified. She described a disturbing pattern of emotional manipulation in which doctors would blackmail parents by suggesting that failing to affirm a child’s gender confusion would lead to self-harm.
After uncovering discrepancies in medical billing, Sivadge noted that Medicaid was being billed for transgender interventions in direct violation of Texas law. She also said the hospital was manipulating medical records, “changing medical records by listing the preferred gender identity on the medical record instead of the birth sex, making fraudulent billing difficult to detect.”
In August 2023, Texas Children’s Hospital fired her.
“I am testifying today because I firmly believe that the weaponization of the government to silence political enemies must end,” Sivadge declared.
U.S. Rep. Chip Roy (R-Austin), chair of the subcommittee, said, “The American people deserve to know that they will not face prosecution on the basis of their political views or which administration is in power. It is long past time for Congress to address this weaponization, investigating the extent of such DOJ partisanship, publicly exposing how it came to be brought, and ensuring hospitals are not secretly inflicting irreversible damage on children.”
“It is not merely enough to end the Biden era discrimination,” added Roy. “We must ensure that the left is never again able to capture institutions for future weaponization, ensuring Americans will not find themselves as collateral damage.”
