The USA Film Festival returns to Dallas for five days packed with film viewings and celebrity appearances this month.
The 55th USA Film Festival kicks off on April 23 and runs until April 27. The multi-day festival at the Angelika Film Center Dallas will feature over 25 programs.
Opening night will see a screening of Jon Avnet’s latest film, The Last Rodeo. The production, co-written by Avnet, Neal McDonough, and Derek Presley, follows a retired rodeo legend who enters a risky bull-riding competition to help save his grandson.
The movie stars Sarah Jones, Mykelti Williamson, Christopher McDonald, Ruvé McDonough, Daylon Swearingen, and Neal McDonough himself. In fact, Neal McDonough, who has starred in recent hits like Yellowstone and Tulsa King, will be in attendance at the festival.
Opening night will also feature a salute to Nancy Kwan, the groundbreaking actress made famous for her role in the 1960s production The World of Suzie Wong. Guests can expect on-stage conversations with the actress and signings of her book, The World of Nancy Kwan.
If that were not enough, opening day will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of the critically acclaimed movie Memento, directed by legendary director Christopher Nolan.
Hunt for the Oldest DNA will also show on the festival’s first day. The documentary follows the story of gene hunter Eske Willerslev’s quest to unpack the mystery of ancient DNA.
This year’s festival will include several free showings, including three on April 24: Magic Farm, On Swift Horses, and Unbroken.
Fans of the popular Netflix series Cobra Kai, a modern spin-off from the 1980s film franchise, The Karate Kid, can get up close with actor Martin Kove, better known as Sensei John Kreese. A salute to the actor will take place Saturday at 7:00 p.m., along with a viewing of one of his earlier works, Death Race 2000.
The festival’s full schedule can be found on their website. Tickets for the festival are now available to the wider public and can be purchased here.
