Lowe’s home improvement stores across the United States will shutter their doors on Easter Sunday, April 20, granting all 300,000 employees a well-earned day off.
The closure, which begins at 10 p.m. local time on April 19 and lasts until 6 a.m. on April 21, marks the fourth straight year that the company has implemented this policy. This decision aligns with what some retailers are calling the spring “Retail Blackout,” a period during which several major chains opt to close their stores on Easter Sunday to give employees a break during the busy spring season.
CEO Marvin Ellison underscored the significance of appreciating the workforce, saying, “I’m extremely proud of the commitment of our 300,000 associates who support our communities while providing excellent customer service not only in spring – but all year-round. dIn recognition of our teams’ continued hard work, we are pleased to provide a well-deserved day off so they can spend Easter with their loved ones.”
All Lowe’s locations nationwide will be affected, ensuring that employees can enjoy quality time with family and friends over the holiday weekend. This practice mirrors a growing trend among major retailers to prioritize employee well-being during key holidays. Alongside Lowe’s, several other national chains are expected to join the “Retail Blackout” by closing their stores on April 20. These include:
- Target
- H-E-B
- Costco
- Sam’s Club
-
ALDI
-
Macy’s
-
Michaels
The move by Lowe’s and other retailers reflects a broader shift in the industry, balancing operational demands with a nod to work-life balance during the bustling spring season.
