The Broadway Musical Jersey Boys is coming to Music Hall at Fair Park, located at 909 1st Avenue in Dallas.

The two-and-a-half-hour show will run from December 28 through January 9, with ticket prices ranging from $30 to $155. Jersey Boys is not recommended for children under twelve years old due to “profane Jersey language.”

Jersey Boys first opened on Broadway in 2005. The show won a Tony Award in 2006 for “Best Musical,” a Grammy Award in 2006 for “Best Musical Show Album,” and a Laurence Olivier Award in 2009 for “Best New Musical.” The Chicago Tribune stated that Jersey Boys is “the most exciting musical Broadway has seen in years.”

Jersey Boys tells the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, an American rock band from the 1960s. Valli was the lead singer; the other group members were Tommy DeVito, Bob Gaudio, and Nick Massi. The show highlights the music and history of the band members, including their prison backgrounds, debt, family tragedy, and tour life.

During the 1960s, the group’s history was not as well-publicized. According to Wikipedia, Gaudio said, “Back then, things were a little clean-cut, don’t forget, so the idea of our story getting out was horrifying to us.”

“Other bands of the time projected street-tough images, but The Four Seasons cleaned themselves up in order to be palatable for mainstream listeners,” Wikipedia states.

The Four Seasons are remembered for their hits that include “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Sherry,” “December 1963 (Oh, What A Night)“, “My Eyes Adored You,” “Stay,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” “Walk Like A Man,” “Who Loves You,” “Working My Way Back to You” and “Rag Doll,” among others.

Gaudio proposed the idea of creating the musical, around the year 2000, to writers Rick Elice and Marshall Brickman. Gaudio also pitched his band’s story to the director Des McAnuff. Brickman shared, “It’s a classic American story. It’s rags to riches, and back to rags.”
