An 18-year-old transgender student, Trinity Shockley, who also goes by the name Jamie, has been arrested for allegedly planning a mass shooting at Mooresville High School on Valentine’s Day.
Authorities say Shockley had been plotting the attack for nearly a year, admiring past mass shooters such as Nikolas Cruz, the perpetrator of the 2018 Parkland, Florida, school massacre.
The FBI received an anonymous tip through the Sandy Hook Promise’s Say Something Anonymous Reporting System, prompting an investigation. According to court documents, Shockley referred to the planned attack as “Parkland part two” and had access to an AR-15 rifle and a bulletproof vest.
Police say Discord messages and other digital evidence revealed disturbing intent, including images of firearm magazines.
Shockley has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, threat to commit terrorism, and conspiracy to commit intimidation. She is currently being held without bond.
Adding another layer to the case, Shockley was previously known in the Mooresville community for surviving a severe 2022 car accident caused by a drunk driver. The accident left her with serious injuries, including head trauma and multiple broken bones, and local residents raised funds to aid in her recovery.
Authorities credit the swift intervention to the FBI tip and stress the importance of reporting suspicious activity. The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement continues to determine the full extent of Shockley’s plans and whether any accomplices were involved.
