Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced on Wednesday that the Lone Star State added more jobs in 2024 than any other state in the country.

Job data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics states that Texas saw the largest gain in the country between December 2023 and 2024 with 284,200 nonfarm jobs added.

The next two closest states were California with 180,500 jobs and Florida with 147,900 jobs added in the same timeframe.

The governor applauded the work being done by the Lone Star State to improve the job economy, writing in a statement about the data that “Texas is America’s undisputed jobs leader.”

“Texas offers businesses the freedom to succeed and hardworking Texans the tools to prosper. As a result, more Texans are working than ever before in the history of our great state,” Abbott continued.

“By unleashing the power of entrepreneurs and innovators and investing in education excellence and career training, we will remain the national leader in job creation and fuel America’s jobs engine. Working with the Texas Legislature this session, we will continue this blueprint for our future and build an even stronger Texas for all.”

This achievement by the Lone Star State comes shortly after Abbott announced that Texas had record-breaking highs for total jobs, the number of Texans working, and the size of the Texas labor force.

Data from the Texas Workforce Commission stated that Texas reached a new high with a labor force of 15,575,900 while also reaching a high with 14,922,200 Texans working in 2024.

Similarly, the state reached a new record high for nonfarm jobs at 14,318,700, contributing to the 2.5 million jobs that have been added since Abbott took office in 2014.

Abbott said in a news release about these record highs that “Everything is bigger in Texas” and the state will continue to work to add more jobs in the future.

“As we break record after record for total jobs, the number of Texans working, and our labor force, we begin the new year as America’s job creator. Jobs are growing here, businesses are growing here, the future is growing here,” he said.

“Texas partners with businesses to help them grow and succeed, providing career training for high-demand industries and cutting burdensome regulations. Working together, we will continue to lead the nation and build a brighter future for all Texans.”
