Despite the remote employment trend allegedly waning, some places, including a Dallas-Fort Worth suburb, boast significant numbers of residents working from home.

A new survey from SmartAsset found that Frisco maintains the highest share of remote workers in the United States.

According to the findings, over 40,000 residents of this DFW suburb work remotely, or more than one-third of the city’s 117,193 total workers, despite Frisco losing over 6,000 remote workers compared to the previous year.

At about 34%, Frisco’s rate of remote workers is nearly triple the national median of 12.5%.

“Factors affecting this wide spread may include the local industries and infrastructure, as well as local demographics,” reads the report.

The Lone Star State also had the city with the lowest percentage of remote workers. In Odessa, less than 1.6% of workers are in a remote arrangement.

Of the remaining two-thirds of Frisco residents who do not work remotely, the vast majority drive to work, taking an average of 30 minutes to arrive. Over 57% of workers drive themselves to work, while 6.4% carpool. Less than one percent of Frisco’s working residents walk or use public transportation to commute to their place of employment, and less than two percent use alternative means that were not disclosed in the study.

Dallas has a larger total number of remote workers — just over 95,000 — but as a percentage, that figure represents just over 14% of all workers. However, at 26 minutes, in-person workers in Dallas recorded a slightly shorter commute to work than those in Frisco.
