Clayton Robinson, co-owner of CR Plumbing, has seen firsthand how unprotected pipes can lead to financial headaches. “Calls start coming in as soon as the freeze starts,” Robinson told CBS. Her company, a woman-owned business serving the DFW Metroplex for five years, has become a trusted resource during cold snaps. Robinson stresses that taking simple preventive measures, such as securing faucet covers and disconnecting hoses, can make a world of difference.
The process of protecting outdoor faucets is straightforward.
Robinson advises removing hoses, ensuring no water drips from the spigot, and securely attaching a faucet cover. “Wrap it around, make sure it stays close, and keep it tight,” she instructed, demonstrating how even small steps can offer significant protection against freezing conditions.
Robinson recommends letting hot and cold water drip slowly from outdoor faucets for temperatures below freezing. This small but effective measure can prevent ice from forming in pipes, reducing the risk of bursting. “A slow trickle can save you from a lot of trouble,” she explained, per CBS. Such advice is particularly critical as temperatures in the region are expected to dip well below 32 degrees.
