Scottie Scheffler is reportedly going to miss the beginning of the 2025 PGA Tour season due to a hand injury he suffered while preparing dinner on Christmas Day.
Scheffler is expected to miss the beginning of the season after glass punctured his hand while preparing dinner, with Scheffler’s manager Blake Smith writing in a statement that the golfer “should be back to 100% in three to four weeks.”
“On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass,” he said, per CNN.
“Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery.”
The 28-year-old golfer will miss the PGA Tour season-opening The Sentry tournament in Hawaii, scheduled to begin on January 2, where he would have likely been the favorite to come out on top.
Scheffler will also miss the Sony Open, scheduled in Hawaii from January 9 to 12. However, per Sports Illustrated, he is expected to return shortly after the completion of these tournaments.
Despite Scheffler withdrawing from The Sentry and Sony Open, he kept his name in the lineup for The American Express tournament, scheduled from January 16 to 19 in California, per Bleacher Report.
The news that Scheffler will miss the Sentry tournament is significant for a player who has put together a masterclass throughout 2024, collecting nine tournament victories.
Scheffler won the second gold jacket of his career by winning the Masters in April, followed by a victory in The Players Championship just one month later.
The top-ranked golfer in the world continued his hot streak during the summer by helping Team USA win a gold medal during the 2024 Paris Olympics in August.
While Scheffler experienced incredible success on the course in 2024, he also had one of the most memorable years off the course as his wife Meredith gave birth to his firstborn daughter on May 8, per CNN.
