Did Speaker Mike Johnson know Congresswoman Kay Granger was living in a senior care facility and was struggling with memory issues?
A senior Republican source said that Granger did not step down due to the slim GOP House majority, reported Fox News.
“Frankly, we needed the numbers,” the source told Fox News.
Granger was no ordinary Republican congresswoman. She led the House Appropriations Committee from 2023 until early this year and served as its Ranking Member from 2019 to 2023. Her absence and health issues would undoubtedly have been a top concern for House leadership.
Did Speaker Mike Johnson and House Republican leadership know Granger was living at a senior care facility and struggling with memory issues? Were they okay with deceiving her constituents?
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, our team visited the facility to verify whether Granger was residing there and to ask how she planned to vote on the spending bill. Upon arrival, two employees confirmed that Granger was living there. However, we were not allowed to interview Granger.
Brandon Granger, the son of Kay Granger, shared with The Dallas Morning News on December 22, “It’s been a hard year,” noting that he was taken aback by how rapidly his mother’s health problems have developed, mentioning that his mother has been “having some dementia issues late in the year.”
Prominent figures such as Elon Musk, Libs of TikTok, and Senator Mike Lee have reacted to the DX exclusive story.
“Maybe we should have some basic cognitive test for elected officials? This is getting crazy …” Elon Musk wrote on X.
The Dallas Express reached out to Speaker Mike Johnson’s office and several House Appropriations Committee members for comment but did not receive a response.
