A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper remains in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle while responding to a crash in far North Dallas early Monday morning.

The incident occurred on the Dallas North Tollway near Keller Springs Road, where the trooper was assisting at the scene of a single-vehicle accident shortly after 12:40 a.m., Fox 4 reported.

While the trooper was addressing the initial wreck, a second vehicle reportedly collided with the DPS patrol SUV before hitting the trooper.

The chain of events left the officer critically injured. Emergency responders quickly transported the trooper to Plano Presbyterian Hospital, where medical teams are working to stabilize the trooper’s condition.

The second vehicle’s driver, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with authorities.

The incident has prompted the closure of all northbound lanes on the Dallas North Tollway as investigators worked to piece together what led to the crash. Drivers in the area are urged to seek alternative routes and exercise caution as authorities examine the circumstances surrounding the collision. It remains unclear if weather conditions, driver impairment, or mechanical failure played a role in the accident.
