The Dallas Police Department is now investigating the case of a woman who was sexually assaulted on Friday night. The woman was making her way through the trails of Katie Jackson Park in the evening hours when a man approached her.
The woman told police that allegedly the man approached her, started talking to her, and then sexually assaulted her. The male suspect was wearing a hoodie.
Police do not have much more of a description. The incident was reported to them around 11 pm on Friday, according to Fox 4. The victim was taken to the hospital. Her condition is unknown but not thought to be life-threatening, police reported.
Dallas Police officers were seen at the park located at 9100 block of Haverwood Lane on Saturday. Officers were reported to have been walking the area as well as canvassing nearby homes and apartments.
Saturday night, additional patrols of the park were increased. Neighbors who noticed the police presence spoke with Fox 4 about the assault.
“I saw police back in through the park here all throughout the day, so I wondered what was going on,” Michael Van Boven shared. “Obviously, never want that in your community.”
Cara Mendelsohn of the District 12 Dallas City Council also spoke about the incident. Mendelsohn shared that she is aware the area is a troubled spot with police presence stepped up in the last few months with the help of a crime response team.
“As a woman, it’s something to be conscious of and be aware of,” Rachel Melancon said of the incident. “It’s really unfortunate that no matter what time it is, bad things can happen.”
Dallas Police have issued a warning to the public to be cautious and report anything they witness that may be suspicious.
