Stanley recalled roughly 2.6 million mugs due to concerns about potential burn hazards for consumers using the product to hold hot beverages.
The affected items are the Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs that were sold in retail stores such as Target, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Amazon, rating in price from $20 to $50, Fox 4 KDFW reported.
The Switchback mugs come in 12 oz. or 16 oz. sizes and the Trigger Action mugs come in sizes of 12 oz., 16 oz., and 20 oz., with both products available in a variety of colors that include black, white, and green.
The company wrote in an informational piece about the recall that the lids on many of the mugs sent out for purchase may “shrink when exposed to heat and torque, causing the lid to detach during use, posing a burn hazard.”
“We ask all our customers currently in possession of the Switchback or Trigger Action travel mugs to immediately stop use of these products and complete a registration for a free replacement lid,” wrote the company.
Stanley had received a total of 91 reports of potential burning hazards related to these products as of December 12, including 38 injuries worldwide and 11 injuries that required medical attention, according to Fox 4.
Stanley further wrote in a statement about the recall on social media that the decision was completely voluntary and that the company is “committed to constant improvement” and is “focused on creating quality products that are built for life.”
Consumers can check if their product is part of the recall by looking for the identification number on the bottom of the mug and entering that number on the Stanley website here.
