The list of GOP Chairs publicly condemning Republicans who are siding with Democrats to support Rep. Dustin Burrows for Speaker of the Texas House has grown from 16 to over 100.

Tarrant County Republican Chairman Bo French wrote on X, “113 Republican County Chairmen in Texas have signed onto this letter condemning the betrayal of a small minority of Republicans in the #txlege.”

In his post, he included the open letter addressed to the Republican members of the Texas House.

“David Cook is a proven conservative who is committed to the Texas GOP legislative priorities and platform and to ending the long-standing practice of empowering Democrats with committee chairmanship. Unfortunately, a small group of Republicans chose to abandon the caucus process and, in doing so, the will of the Republican majority.”

“Led by Dustin Burrows, these representatives are now negotiating with Democrats to install a Speaker who would undermine the conservative agenda,” the letter said.

“… The future of our party, our state, and our shared conservative vision depends on your resolve to honor the caucus process and support the Republican nominee. Anything less is unacceptable.”

The sole county that is supporting Burrows is Lubbock County. The Lubbock County Republican Party voted to endorse Burrows despite overwhelming condemnation by major Republican figures.

“Dustin Burrows has been an effective, conservative leader for our Republican values in the Texas House. He is the right man for the Speakership. He possesses the skills to unite the house and will serve our community and the great State of Texas well,” the Lubbock County Republican Party wrote on Facebook.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, State Rep. David Cook (R-Mansfield) won the GOP caucus’ endorsement for Speaker, securing 48 votes out of the 88 caucus members. Burrows (R-Lubbock) garnered 14 in the third and final round of voting. Some caucus members walked out of the meeting after the first two rounds of voting and did not participate in the third round.
