More bad news followed the Dallas Cowboys’ loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night as linebacker DeMarvion Overshown is now expected to miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

Overshown has been one of the few bright spots for the Cowboys during a disappointing season, but he suffered a right knee injury early in the fourth quarter against the Bengals that will likely end his season.

Comments from those within the organization have indicated that Overshown will miss the remainder of this season and may not return to the field until the beginning of the 2026 season.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on Tuesday morning during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan that Overshown will undergo surgery to repair the injury, though Jones did not provide a timeline for the recovery.

“But I just can’t tell you how bad I feel for him because he’s just been through that mental and physical rehab on his other knee,” said Jones, as reported by ESPN.

“It’s the toughest time for a player. And we all see the loss and know what it’s going to mean for us in our remaining four games. Bottom line is, it’s really sad that he’s having to have this surgery, for him as an individual and, obviously, us as a team.”

Sources from within the Cowboys told ESPN that the injury was likely more than just a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament, but the team is still waiting for additional testing to confirm the full extent of the damage.

While the Cowboys have not released any details on the extent of the injury, Head Coach Mike McCarthy said after the game that the injury is “of a serious nature” and that initial testing indicated that “it’s not good.”

“I think the whole sideline felt that because it didn’t look good,” he said, according to ESPN. “It definitely hit a lot of the guys.”

Overshown was in the midst of his first healthy season since being drafted by the Cowboys in the third round of the 2023 draft after missing his rookie season with a Torn ACL in his left knee.

The second-year linebacker has collected 90 total tackles and forced two turnovers during his 13 appearances this season, standing out as a player who has grown the most throughout the season.

Dallas had little expectation to make the playoffs this season after starting the year 3-7 through the first 10 games, but the development of Overshown and other young players has become a priority for this team.

Now, the Cowboys will likely have to look to other young players to step in and take over the role that Overshown had been playing throughout this season.
