A man shot himself in the shoulder Friday night after his girlfriend broke up with him, as reported by the Dallas Morning News.

According to the news report, the shooting happened in east Oak Cliff in the 2100 block of Stovall Drive.    

Police say the man initially claimed a stray bullet wounded him.

He was transferred to the hospital for treatment of his wound.     

After he was taken to the hospital, the man told the police something else, saying he shot himself because he was upset that his girlfriend broke up with him.

A spokesman for the Dallas Police Department Sgt. Warren Mitchell gave an account of the wounded man’s changed story, saying he “shot himself in the shoulder after his girlfriend broke up with him.”    

Police did not release the identity of the man. They also haven’t said if they will be charging the man with any crime.
