Far-left State Rep. Gene Wu has been elected Chair of the Texas House Democratic Caucus.
“I’m honored to have received the support and trust of my colleagues. I look forward to working for the members of the Texas HDC to ensure that they each have the tools and support they need to pass meaningful legislation for their districts and fight for everyday Texans who deserve a fair shot and a voice in the Legislature,” Wu said in a press release.
“I am excited to see what Texas House Democrats can do together in the upcoming Legislative Session,” Wu said.
Wu has been considered one of the most liberals in the Texas House, and he was blasted last year by the outfit Texas Gun Rights for filing legislation the group deemed “red flag laws on steroids.”
Wu has also been criticized for his inflammatory X posts.
“I don’t think many men and many women can be alone with kids without it getting weird. But that’s why we have school systems that screen and prepare for these things,” Wu wrote in a now-deleted post on X.
Texans for Vaccine Choice also posted a screenshot of Wu wishing COVID-19 deaths for Republican voters.
“COVID-19 has disproportionately killed more REPUBLICANS because of policies like this and consistent anti-vaxx attitude by Republican leaders. But, if the Governor is fine with this, then I’m good too,” Wu said.
Republican leaders weren’t impressed by Wu’s elevation to Chair of the Texas House Democratic Caucus.
“Fresh off their greatest defeat in a decade, the Texas House Democrats have chosen one of the most liberal and silly members of their party, Gene Wu, to lead their caucus in the #txleg. I can’t wait for the disastrous results this will lead to for them. #RedWave2026,” Founder of Tarrant County Patriots PAC Cary Cheshire wrote on X.
