The Fort Worth Police Department remembered fallen officer Hank Nava on the 19th anniversary of his death in the line of duty.

On December 1, 2005, “Fort Worth Police Officer Henry ‘Hank’ Nava was attempting to serve an arrest warrant and was searching a mobile home for the suspect. The suspect emerged from a closet holding a handgun and began firing,” the Fort Worth Police Department Facebook post said.

“A gunfight between Officer Nava and the suspect ensued and Officer Nava suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Officer Nava was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He was 39 years old.”

The 19th anniversary of his passing has been met with local support online.

“Gone but never forgotten. Think of you often. RIP Hank,” Frances Valle wrote on Facebook.

“Omg. I remember this so so well we were in our facility in Keller and the police officers that came in from Keller to work out and a few others that worked at the Academy who knew and loved him it was so sad.. everyone was affected by his kindness and he paid the ultimate sacrifice.. but true faith we will see him once again John chapter 5 verse 28 and 29,” Linda Faucher Womack wrote on Facebook.

“What a loss. Thank you for serving, Officer Nava,” Cyndy Guest Andrews wrote on Facebook.

Local leaders such as Tarrant County Commissioner Manny Ramirez have posted on Facebook honoring Nava’s service and life.

“Nineteen years have passed since Fort Worth lost Officer Hank Nava, a devoted husband, father, and incredible cop. Hank Nava was a hero. We will never forget,” Ramirez posted on Facebook.
