Incoming border czar Tom Homan said that he is willing to put Denver Mayor Mike Johnston in jail after the mayor said he was willing to risk incarceration to resist President-elect Donald Trump’s mass deportation plans.
During an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Homan said, “… Me and the Denver mayor, we agree on one thing; he’s willing to go to jail. I’m willing to put him in jail.”
Referencing a “statute,” Homan added, “What it says is that it’s a felony if you knowingly harbour and conceal an illegal alien from immigration authorities. It’s also a felony to impede a federal law enforcement officer. So if he don’t help, that’s fine. He can get the hell out of the way, but we’re going to go do the job.”
He continued, “I find it hard to believe that any mayor or governor would say they don’t want public safety threats removed from their neighbourhoods,” reported The Guardian.
Homan said that Trump’s goal is to have a safe and secure country that saves lives.
“President Trump has been clear, we want to concentrate on public safety threats and national security threats. I find it hard to believe that any governor would say they don’t want public safety threats removed from their neighborhoods,” Homan said, reported Fox News.
In a recent interview, Johnston said that he is not afraid to face the consequences of not cooperating with the federal government.
“Yeah, I’m not afraid of that, and I’m also not seeking that,” Johnston said, per Fox News. “I think the goal is we want to be able to negotiate with reasonable people [on] how to solve hard problems.”
Johnston is not the only Democrat who is openly planning to defy the federal government and not cooperate. Both California Governor Gavin Newsom and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker have vowed opposition, with Pritzker saying in a recent interview, “If you come for my people, you come through me,” reported The Guardian.
