Texas Wesleyan University secured its third straight conference title on Saturday.
The football team will now make its first postseason appearance in program history with the revealing of Sunday’s National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) bracket, reported Texas Football.
“Seventh-ranked Texas Wesleyan capped off an undefeated season (10-0, 8-0 SAC) with a dominant 63-42 win over Louisiana Christian on Saturday, claiming their third consecutive conference title and first outright championship. The Rams’ explosive offense and milestone performances propelled them past the Wildcats in a high-scoring showdown at Wildcat Field,” Texas Wesleyan wrote in a press release.
“Ernest Ceasar etched his name into the NAIA record books, scoring five rushing touchdowns to bring his career total to 76, surpassing the previous record for most career touchdowns. Ceasar’s efforts included a game-sealing 51-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter, putting the game out of reach,” the press release continued.
Texas Wesleyan earned the eighth seed in the bracket. The team’s offensive average was 59.9 points per game, breaking the NAIA record of 58.9 set by Morningside, reported Texas Football.
Residents and local community leaders have praised the accomplishment.
