On Friday, President-elect Donald Trump announced the appointment of Karoline Leavitt as his new White House press secretary.
With this new role, Leavitt will not only be responsible for managing communications and interactions with the media but will also make history as the youngest individual to assume the title of press secretary in the nation’s history at the age of 27.
Leavitt approaches the podium with a wealth of experience that belies her youth.
Even though her lifelong ambition was to be a broadcast journalist, Leavitt secured an internship at the White House in 2019. She eventually rose to the position of assistant press secretary to combat what she referred to as “the biased mainstream media” during Trump’s first administration, reported The Washington Post.
She also served as the national press secretary for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.
Currently, Leavitt serves as a spokesperson for the president-elect’s transition team, engaging in communication and outreach efforts to facilitate a smooth transfer of power, reported Newsweek.
“Karoline Leavitt did a phenomenal job as the National Press Secretary on my Historic Campaign, and I am pleased to announce she will serve as White House Press Secretary,” Trump said in his announcement.
“Karoline is smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator,” he added. “I have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium, and help deliver our message to the American People as we, Make America Great Again,” added Trump.
Leavitt responded on X to Trump’s announcement, thanking him for the appointment:
