President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly preparing to nominate Senator Marco Rubio of Florida as Secretary of State, multiple media outlets are reporting.

Although Trump might make a last-minute decision change, he currently intends to offer the high-profile position to Rubio.

Trump is also selecting South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, a longtime ally, to serve as his secretary of Homeland Security, according to media reports.

Both Noem and Rubio will be subject to Senate approval to assume their positions.

Rubio, who has served three terms in the Senate and was initially considered as a potential vice-presidential candidate before Trump selected Senator JD Vance, is expected to bring his strong stance on foreign policy to the role.

Rubio, known for his focus on strengthening U.S. alliances and his opposition to certain foreign aid initiatives, has supported Trump on international matters, including U.S. policy towards Russia and the recent conflict in Israel.

Recently, Rubio joined Trump’s efforts to push for peace negotiations in Ukraine, highlighting his preference for diplomatic resolutions over prolonged military involvement. If confirmed, Rubio would be the first Latino Secretary of State, a historic appointment that has been praised by Trump supporters and groups like the Republican Jewish Coalition, who see Rubio as a strong ally to Israel.

In addition to Rubio, Trump has been actively shaping his Cabinet. Recent appointments include Rep. Elise Stefanik as ambassador to the United Nations, Tom Homan as border czar, and Rep. Michael Waltz as national security advisor, showing Trump’s rapid moves to build his second-term team.

Further key positions have also been filled, such as former Governor Kristi Noem for Homeland Security, who gained attention for her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and other political actions that have both raised her profile and attracted scrutiny.

This early preparation indicates Trump’s intent to solidify his administration quickly, focusing on appointments that align with his policy priorities and campaign promises.
