A stolen car chase near the East Texas town of Terrell took a dramatic turn after a crash that uncovered a blindfolded kidnapping victim and a large quantity of methamphetamine inside the vehicle.
The police chase took place on Tuesday morning after authorities received a Flock camera alert. The chase eventually led to a crash and the arrest of two men on multiple felony charges.
According to Terrell police, officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle in the 1300 block of Rosehill Road, located east of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. When the driver failed to pull over, the high-speed chase ensued, heading west on Interstate 20.
The pursuit came to a sudden halt when the car crashed into fencing along the highway. Inside the vehicle authorities found three people, including a man who who was bound and blindfolded, according to Fox 4. Two of the men, later identified as Manuel Martinez Jr. and Derric Simmons, were taken into custody, while the third person was treated at a nearby hospital.
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Martinez and Simmons had kidnapped the victim from another location and brought him to a house in Terrell. The suspects allegedly forced the man inside the home, where they held him at gunpoint, tied him up and blindfolded him. During that time, the pair reportedly ransacked the home, robbing the property before leaving with the kidnapping victim in tow.
As the suspects fled the scene, they were spotted by law enforcement in the stolen vehicle, leading to the chase and eventual crash on the highway.
Inside the vehicle, police discovered nearly four pounds of crystal methamphetamine and several firearms.
Simmons was arrested for aggravated kidnapping, burglary of a habitation, delivery of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm and evading arrest.
Martinez faces a similar slew of felony charges, including delivery of a controlled substance, aggravated kidnapping and burglary of a habitation.
