The Dallas Cowboys have started the season just 3-5 and could be on track to continue losing following reports that quarterback Dak Prescott will likely miss multiple games due to a hamstring injury.
Prescott suffered this injury during the second half of the Cowboys’ 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 10. An MRI on Monday revealed an injury that was “worse than initially feared,” according to NFL.com.
The ninth-year quarterback reportedly seeks a second opinion on the injury to confirm treatment options as the franchise determines whether to place Prescott on the injured reserve list.
Placing Prescott on the injured reserve list guarantees that he would miss at least four games, which would sideline him for matchups against the Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Texans, Washington Commanders, and New York Giants.
Dallas must now decide whether to start either Cooper Rush or Trey Lance.
Rush is the most likely option for the team as it looks to recover from the slow start to the year. Rush is currently listed on the Cowboys’ depth chart as the backup quarterback. Lance is listed as the team’s third quarterback but could provide a different look for opposing teams due to his rushing ability.
Another injury concern is star wide receiver Ceedee Lamb, who, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, is reportedly dealing with a sprained AC joint and could miss the Cowboys’ Week 10 matchup against the Eagles.
Lamb’s injury is reportedly not considered serious by those within the organization, and there is a chance that he will be able to play in Week 10, though no guarantees about his status have been released.
These injuries come as the Cowboys enter a critical portion of their schedule following a disastrous 3-5 start to the year, as Dallas will likely have to finish the season with a record of at least 10-7 to make the playoffs.
Although the Cowboys still have a path to the playoffs if they can win over the coming weeks, the foreseeable future has become much more difficult following the injuries sustained by Prescott and Lamb.
