Greyhound plans to relocate its main terminal in the City of Dallas to Harry Hines Boulevard once its lease expires next year.
The lease for Greyhound’s downtown terminal was initially supposed to expire in October but was extended to April 2025. Once finished, the intercity bus service operator will move to its new home near Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s Bachman Station.
Last month, The Dallas Express reported that local developer Ray Washburn purchased the current Downtown Dallas bus station. While the terms of the deal were kept confidential, the Dallas Central Appraisal District most recently valued the 26,000-square-foot property at $2.8 million.
Before the announcement of the new terminal, the fate of Greyhound’s intercity bus operations in the City was in question. This was a concern for individuals like Joseph Schwieterman, director of the Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development at DePaul University, who stated that the volume of passengers and the City’s geographic location means Dallas is a vital hub in the bus network.
The new site not only means Greyhound will still have a home in the City, but it will also enable the operator to expand routes in and out of Dallas.
“The Dallas bus station is a major hub for us in the southwestern United States and its continued operation is absolutely critical for the national network, so we’ll make sure that we continue operations,” said Greyhound CEO Kadir Boysan, per The Dallas Morning News.
“When we bring up our new terminal … we will be able to actually serve a higher number of schedules and provide more options to passengers who are residents of D-FW or visitors to the D-FW region,” Boysan added.
As for what will become the former Greyhound home, Washburne says he plans to overhaul the existing facility as part of his effort to refresh the area where he owns multiple properties.
